Building a better future together - Patton supports NZ HVAC&R apprenticeship
Refrigeration and air-conditioning are indispensable in today’s world, and require skilled technicians and engineers to design, install, service and maintain the systems.
Therefore, in order to support the New Zealand HVAC&R Industry and provide the young
refrigeration technicians with hands-on experience, Patton Refrigeration took on five apprentices from Chillex Maintenance, Climate Control Services, Economech Maintenance, Thermal Solutions and Cool Comfort.
During 21st May to 25th June 2018, each of these apprentices spent one week at Patton Manufacturing to learn from skilled and knowledgeable journeymen. They have learnt how to maintain, install and repair various types of equipment used in the industry today as well as exercise industrial safety practices.
Philip Hitchins, Managing Director of Patton, says: “Patton appreciates the value of apprenticeship training and understands the future of our industry is at risk. Unless we all, Wholesalers, Contractors and Major End Users, contribute to encouraging young people into the trade and of course help in whatever way possible to provide the very best training.
“Patton is fortunate that we have an engineering team and modern assembly/custom build operation that we can bring apprentices into, enabling them to complete their training requirements and also experience some diversity of product in the refrigeration industry.”
Cam Crawford, Managing Director of Chillex Group, says: “Teaching our apprentices takes a serious commitment in both time and effort and Patton lead from the front.”
“The willingness of the Patton team to take the time to train our apprentices within their factory is something that all the companies in the HVAC&R industry who have trainees need to acknowledge.” Says Crawford, “Whenever industry has asked for help Patton have always answered the call and personally I cannot thank Phil and his team enough for being a
major part of keeping the training flame alight.”
